In addition to the technical and aesthetic qualities of the material, the success of a PORCELAINGRES floor is due to a series of elements (subfloor, binding layer, expansion joints, etc.) that constitute a true system. The correct execution of the laying operations is thus absolutely essential for ensuring a perfect final result. The materials can be laid using either adhesives or cement mortar. In choosing the most suitable adhesive and application methods, the layer should follow the instructions provided by the adhesive manufacturer. In places subject to heavy traffic or the passage of heavy loads it is advisable to choose a laying system with adhesives. PORCELAINGRES collections are natural materials in terms of both the raw materials used and the particular production technologies which tend to simulate the random aspects of natural formation.
Colour variations are thus a desired characteristic that the layer’s skill can enhance to create a unique and unrepeatable floor. To take the best advantage of the characteristics of the material, we recommend that the layer follow these instructions:
- Spread out a number of pieces (at least 3 square metres) on the floor to check the overall aesthetic effect. When laying the material, mix the contents of different boxes.
- When Setting tiles, make sure the corners meets, never staggering or arranging them irregularity. Leave a joint of at least 2 mm between the tiles, using a grouting materials that matches the colour of the tiles.
- Beat down the material until any cavities or air bubbles in the mortar are eliminated and liquid cement comes out of the joints.
- Wait 48-72 hours before allowing normal traffic on the floor.
- Joint the flooring (after cleaning) between 24 and 48 hours after laying and in the case of quick setting adhesives after 4 hours.
- If you decide to use dark coloured grout, try out the grout you have chosen with a sample of the material and, before spreading it, wet the flooring with soapy water.
- Spread the grout over the entire surface of the material using a rubber spatula.
- Joint small areas at a time (4-5 sq.m) and remove the excess with a damp sponge or cloth (use only clean water) or use a cleaning machine to remove the excess.
- Immediately after installation clean carefully and thoroughly, rubbing hard with acid-based products, followed by abundant rinsing with water.
- If there are stains that are difficult to remove, use a steam machine.
- After the final cleaning, the fixed floor should be well protected.
